It's Heart Health Month! Count your heartbeat for 15 seconds. Now, jog in place for 30 seconds then take your pulse again. Is there a difference?

Why do you think your heart rate changes after moving? The faster you move, the harder your heart pumps because our bodies need more fuel. Since the heart is a muscle, it grows stronger as you continue to move and be active.

Recess Moves
The next time you go out for recess, check your heart rate before and after! Do you notice a difference? Was your body at work so you could play during recess/break?

It's National Weather Person Day! Look outside right now and describe the weather.

Take advantage of any sunshine during this chilly month! Even though you'll have to bundle up, you can still enjoy the great outdoors. Take a walk and look up at the sky. If you were a weather person, how would you describe the day?

A Walk in the Winter
Take a note pad with you and write down what you see during a walk outside!

Did you know that the heart muscle is so strong it could lift 3000 lbs! That is the same weight as a small car!

Your heart muscle is the same size as your fist. Can you feel your heart beating? That little muscle works to pump blood, oxygen, and nutrients to various parts of your body to keep you healthy and active!

Move Mixer
A normal heart beats 50-125 times per minute when you are NOT exercising. What is your heart rate after a walk outside? And after completing 15 jumping jacks?

The next time you MOVE your body with an activity, try talking aloud. Now, try singing aloud. Are you out of breath or not breathing hard enough?

The talk-sing test is a simple way to determine your aerobic exercise level. If you can talk while moving your body, you are probably moving at a pace that is right for you. If you are too breathless to talk, slow down! If you can sing you may not be moving enough so go ahead and pick up the pace!

MOVE with fitBoost
While you do the MOVE part of a fitBoost, try the talk-sing test! If you are able to talk very easily, do the activity for another minute.

Why do dogs run in circles?
Because it's hard to run in squares!

It's Responsible Pet Owners Month! Having a pet is a big responsibility. Part of that responsibility is making sure your pet gets enough exercise. Dogs need to MOVE just like you. The good thing is, if you have a dog, there are plenty of ways to exercise together! Going for a walk, chasing each other, or playing fetch are great ways to be active with your dog.

MOVE with Max
Challenge yourself to take your dog for a 15 minute walk with an adult each day this week! Don't have a dog? No problem! Walk with a family member or a friend.
